Which Pattern Would You Choose? Sewing Boldness Into My Freelance Journey
At 60+, I’ve realized that confidence shows up in the choices we make for ourselves in work and in style.
This week at my sewing table, I found myself facing a decision that felt bigger than fabric: which pattern should I use for my next pair of mustard ponte pants?
The Pattern Dilemma
I have two options:
- Simplicity 8378 → my TNT (tried-and-true) pants pattern. I know the fit, I trust the lines, and it never lets me down.
- Simplicity 4789 → a classic coordination packet that also includes a pants option. It’s a chance to try something new, with a fresh silhouette.
Both will get me to the same outcome: a bold new pair of pants. But the process, and the feeling of confidence along the way, will be different.
The Lesson Beyond the Fabric
It struck me that this choice isn’t so different from freelancing.
Sometimes we lean on our TNTs—the skills, tools, and experiences that are reliable and proven. Other times, we take a risk with something new, knowing it may stretch us but could also open up fresh opportunities.
Either way, it’s about trusting the process. Just like sewing, freelancing is never one-size-fits-all.
Why Bold Choices Matter at 60+
As an inverted triangle with warm undertones, I’ve learned that bold bottoms (like mustard ponte) balance my shape and add personality to my wardrobe. The same is true in my freelance career: bold moves balance out the routine and remind me I’m still evolving, still creating, still making choices that fit me.
Closing Thoughts
So here I am between a TNT and a new option, knowing either will carry me forward.
In sewing, as in freelancing, the real confidence comes from deciding, cutting, and moving forward.
