What to Wear When You Work From Home (and Still Want to Feel Chic)What to Wear When You Work From Home (and Still Want to Feel Chic)

Why I Still Get Dressed — Even If I’m Not Leaving the House

Working from home has its perks—no commute, a flexible schedule, and, yes, the option to stay in pajamas all day. But here’s the thing: I don’t. At 60+, I’ve learned that how I dress impacts how I feel, and how I feel affects everything—from my confidence to my creativity.

Dressing with intention, even just for myself, is one of the best habits I’ve carried into freelancing.

Style at Home Isn’t About Impressing—It’s About Expressing

We’ve all had days where we throw on the baggiest tee and call it good. But when those days turn into a routine, something shifts. I noticed I was feeling sluggish and uninspired. Then I asked myself, what if I got dressed as if my day mattered? Because it does.

Feeling chic at home doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort. It means showing up for your work—and for yourself.

My Go-To Work-From-Home Staples

Here’s what’s in my current rotation—and why it works:

👚 Soft, Structured Tops in Rich Colors
I don’t always reach for black, but I do love a darker hue—deep navy, burgundy, olive, or plum. These shades feel polished without being harsh, and they pair effortlessly with my bright-colored bottoms and accessories.

👖 Pull-On Pants or Knit Trousers
Yes to stretch, but no to sloppy! I love a bright-colored pant—red, coral, or mustard—to lift my mood and create contrast.

💎 Accessories That Keep It Simple
Statement earrings or a little gold jewelry go a long way. Just one piece can make me feel put together—even when I’m working from my kitchen table.

🥿 Shoes? Optional—but style isn’t.
Sometimes it’s slippers, sometimes it’s ballet flats. But I always feel better when I look in the mirror and like what I see.

My Personal Formula: Effortless but Elevated

Most days, I go for

Darker-hued blouse + bright-colored pants + gold hoops.
It’s simple, flattering, and it signals to me that I’m not just home—I’m showing up for my goals.

That outfit is my version of a power suit. It reminds me that even though I may be working from the dining room table, I’m building something that matters.

Style is Self-Respect—Not Self-Indulgence

At 60, I know who I am. I don’t dress for trends—I dress for truth. And the truth is, when I feel good in what I wear, I carry that energy into my work.

So here’s my challenge to you:
Pick one outfit this week that makes you feel like the best version of yourself—even if no one else sees it.
You might be surprised how it transforms your day.
